I am interested in the effect of climate fluctuations on the biology, ecology, and evolutionary history of marine organisms. I primarily study modern planktonic Foraminifera (unicellular eukaryotes with carbonate shells) with the goal of developing methods to better interpret their fossil record. My dissertation is centered around using diverse methods and resources (including fossils, modern core top and plankton tow assemblages, and laboratory cultured specimens) to gain a greater understanding of the factors that influence the morphology of planktonic Foraminifera and the ways that morphology reflects foraminiferal ecology and physiology.
