I am a physical oceanographer working with Alexey Fedorov on intrinsic modes of variability of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). I principally study the mechanisms that are responsible for ocean circulation on large scales. My primary focus so far has been on investigating the dynamics that control the AMOC strength, structure and variability, to which my research has contributed to extending our understanding from the common 2D to a more 3D perspective. I mostly use ocean models and incorporate a range of modelling approaches, including forward modelling of primitive equation models, Lagrangian ocean modelling, simplified 2D modelling, and analysing theoretical arguments from GCM output.
