Bio/Research:

Computer modeling of the carbon and sulfur cycles. This includes calculation of the evolution of atmospheric CO2 and O2 over Phanerozoic time and the effect of CO2 on climate via the atmospheric greenhouse effect and the effect of changing O2 on animal evolution.
The role of plants in weathering. A better understanding of how plants affect the breakdown of silicate rocks on the continents is essential to understanding the geochemical carbon cycle.
Weathering of organic matter in ancient shales as a control on atmospheric O2 over multimillion year times scales.
