I am Jake Thompson, a post-doc researcher in Professor Planavsky’s lab. My research focuses on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as “forever chemicals,”. Recently, I have started investigating more cost-effective and sustainable methods for remediating PFAS-impacted farmlands, particularly those affected by the historic use of biosolids. Our approach involves using hyperaccumulating plants that can selectively absorb PFAS from soils, combined with enhanced weathering techniques, to develop a sustainable strategy for restoring agricultural sites impacted by PFAS.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, playing computer games, and rock climbing. I like to cook and eat tasty food. I spend many of my weekends traveling to NYC to try as many restaurants as possible.
